When Taiesha Smith took the job as director at the Mary Frances Early College of Education’s Office of Experiential Learning a year and a half ago, she set about modernizing by taking the office digital. “All forms required for field placement approval were converted into documents that could be completed online,” she said. She didn’t realize that she was creating a perfect platform to deal with the onslaught of changes and cancellations and volume of information that would soon be necessary to get out quickly during a pandemic.

New research shows the program has an impact on classroom success
Students who attend the Georgia Prekindergarten Program are more likely to achieve in mathematics than those who do not attend pre-K, according to a new study by the University of Georgia.
In the first longitudinal study to follow Georgia pre-K students through middle school, Stacey Neuharth-Pritchett, associate dean for academic programs and professor in UGA’s Mary Frances Early College of Education, found that participating in pre-K programs positively predicted mathematical achievement in students through seventh grade.

The University of Georgia Press will host a university-wide campus read of âAn Education in Georgiaâ by Calvin Trillin in partnership with the New Georgia Encyclopedia, the Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication and the Mary Frances Early College of Education.
The Campus Read is a celebration for both desegregation at the University of Georgia and Black History Month. The program will include two virtual talks: The first is on Feb. 4 with Trillin, a long time staff writer at The New Yorker, and Charlayne Hunter-Gault, one of the first Black students to attend UGA. The other talk closes the Campus Read on Feb. 25 with Mary Frances Early, the first Black graduate from UGA, and UGA Rhodes Scholar Phaidra Buchanan.
UGA earns several top 10 rankings for online programs

Education, business programs recognized again by U.S. News and World Report
The quality of the University of Georgia’s online degree programs has been recognized with several top 10 rankings from U.S. News and World Report.
“Whether in-person or online, the University of Georgia provides students with outstanding learning experiences that prepare them for success after graduation,” said S. Jack Hu, the university’s senior vice president for academic affairs and provost. “These latest rankings are another indication of the national reputation of our faculty and programs.”
At the master’s level, the Mary Frances Early College of Education’s programs ranked fourth overall, marking the college’s third consecutive year in the top 5. The college’s program in instructional design and development is ranked fourth and the educational administration and supervision program is ranked ninth in the na
