A Navy hospital corpsman who had shot and critically wounded two people at a Maryland office park was shot and killed several miles away in Fort Detrick, the main site of the U.S. Army s biological defense program. The U.S. Navy can confirm there was an active shooter incident at Fort Detrick, MD involving U.S. Navy Sailors, a Navy spokesman said in a statement.
Police said the two victims suffered life-threatening injuries and were flown to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore.
Police said the suspect was dead and two victims were in critical condition.
According to police, a shooting happened at an address where a concrete business is located and about four miles from Fort Detrick.
The Navy did not release further details.
Jeremy Mutschler, director of marketing for Nicolock Paving Stones, said that his understanding is that the shooting was near the company’s Frederick location but not at the business itself.
“One of the victims who was wounded entered our facility looking for help and we were able to assist and call the authorities,” said Mr Mutschler, who is based in New York.
The two people who were shot at the business park were flown to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, Lando said.
The gunman drove through a gate at an entrance to the base before military personnel confronted him on a road inside, said Fort Detrick spokeswoman Lanessa Hill.
“It wasn’t that long after he came through the gate that the shooter was stopped, Hill said. “Not even a quarter of a mile.” She said Frederick police had given base officials advance notice, so we knew that he was out there.”
Fort Detrick is home to the military’s flagship biological defense laboratory and several federal civilian biodefense labs. About 10,000 military personnel and civilians work on the base, which encompasses about 1,300 acres (526 hectares) in the city of Frederick.

WASHINGTON, April 6 (Xinhua) A U.S. Navy medic shot and critically injured two people at an industrial park in Frederick, the U.S. state of Maryland, on Tuesday before heading to a nearby military base, where he was killed by personnel there, authorities said.
Frederick Police Chief Jason Lando told a news briefing that police responded to a shooting incident around 8:20 a.m. ET at Riverside Tech Park, where a 38-year-old male suspect opened fire, striking two men and causing others to flee. It was not yet clear whether the shooting happened inside or outside the business.

Two men were critically injured in a shooting Tuesday morning at a business park in Frederick, Maryland, after which the suspect, a 38-year-old man, was shot dead by personnel at a nearby military base, the city police department said.
The men who were shot at Riverside Tech Park sustained life-threatening injuries and were flown to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, where they are in critical condition, police said.
