The position of mayor and two Town Council seats are at stake. Larry Hushour and incumbent Patrick Rockinberg are running for mayor; Stephen Domotor, Lynne Galletti and Heather Hobbs are running for the council.
RISING SUN â Young anglers are expected to come out Saturday morning and compete for prizes in the Annual Rising Sun Chamber of Commerce Fishing Derby.
Itâs a free competition open to any child 12 and under accompanied by a parent or guardian. There will be fish to be caught too since the Maryland Department of Natural Resources recently stocked the Rising Sun Community Pond on East Main Street.
Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. and hooks drop in the water at 8 a.m. The competition ends at 11 a.m. with the awarding of prizes.
The Fishing Derby has been a chamber event for almost 30 years, giving youngsters a chance to catch a fish and win a prize. Awards are given for the largest and smallest fish, the most fish caught and more categories.

The Maryland Department of Natural Resources announces the annual Maryland Park Quest returns for 2021, running from May 1 through Oct. 31. In this beloved annual tradition, more than 25 Maryland State Parks, will offer opportunities to engage families in outdoor activities to experience Maryland’s vast cultural, historical, and natural resources on public lands and parks.
The 2021 Park Quest theme is “Spread Your Wings to Explore Maryland’s State Parks,” and many of the quests will help participants learn more about Maryland’s birds.
(WEAA) Black bears are emerging from hibernation and the Maryland Department of Natural Resources is advising residents to avoid creating “man-made attractions” for the animals.
Wildlife officials say, as the bears emerge, they are searching for food and their natural food sources such as plants and berries are in short supply until late spring.
“Keeping bears wild is a community effort that benefits bears and people,” said Wildlife and Heritage Director Paul Peditto. “Using care to avoid attracting bears now will help keep them away throughout the year and ensure they remain in the wild.”
