Ocean City says to keep an eye out for stranded seals on beaches

Seals may often just be resting when spotted on the beach or on the docks. However, the MD DNR says they may be stranded due to age, disease, trauma or other reasons. They warn to keep your distance from seals as they can be aggressive, especially toward pets. They also say seal bites can be both painful and unsafe, as they can sometimes transmit diseases.

All marine mammals are protected under the Marine Mammal Protection Act. Ocean City Police say anyone who spots a seal, or other marine mammal, in distress can call the National Aquarium s Stranding Hotline at 410-576-3880 or OC Animal Control at 410-723-6610.
Maryland Deer Culling Program Ends With More Than 80,000 Killed
About four percent more deer were killed in Montgomery County during the state harvest six-month long season to cull the deer population as compared to the previous year’s harvest.
In Montgomery County, 1,363 antlered deer were killed between Sept. 11, 2020 and Feb. 3, 2021. That is a decrease of .3%. More antlerless deer were eliminated here this year. 2,741 antlerless deer were killed during the recent program. That is a 5.9% increase over the 2,588 deer that were eliminated during the previous season, according to the Maryland Department of Natural Resources.
Statewide, 81,729 deers were killed by archery, firearms and muzzleloaders. Most of the deer harvested were antlerless white-tailed deer.
Del. Mary Ann Lisanti is working to revise a bill related to waterfowl hunting in the Susquehanna Flats area of the Chesapeake Bay, after hearing from multiple hunters and hunting organizations concerned that the version of the bill she filed in early February could limit the manner in which people could hunt in the area.
