The Louisiana State Arts Council receives applications for matching federal funds available from the National Endowment for the Arts and such other funds made available to the council and make recommendations thereon. The Council reviews and approves or rejects said grant applications from other governmental units, community arts councils, and other private, nonprofit, and tax-exempt groups. Additionally, the Council advises departmental officers on the design and execution of an annual state plan consistent with the goals and policies of the department as provided by federal and state law, rules, and regulations, and submits the plan to the National Endowment for the Arts.

BATON ROUGE, La. – Sunday, correctional officers at Louisiana State Penitentiary detected narcotics on a corrections officer during shift change. They immediately detained 52-year-old Janice Coney of 2644 Old Towne Road, Zachary, Louisiana.
During the shakedown, DOC correctional officers found four oblong objects hidden inside a disinfectant wipe container belonging to Coney. Upon inspecting the substance, it was determined to be 314 grams of marijuana.
Corrections investigators notified the West Feliciana Parish Sheriff s Office, and deputies booked Coney into the West Feliciana Parish Jail on the following charges; Introduction of Contraband into a Penal Institution, and Possession of Schedule 1 Narcotics.

The West Feliciana Parish Sheriff s Office and the Louisiana Department of Corrections launched a joint investigation into the incident, according to a news release issued by Angola.The news release said the deceased inmate was involved in a fight with another inmate in his cell and died at the hospital. It happened around 11:45 p.m. Saturday. Correctional officers making routine rounds discovered the fight. The other inmate involved in the fight is in investigative segregation at this time, according to the news release.An autopsy will be performed this week.
