Barilaro slams premiers for knee-jerk reactions on borders22/12/2020|3min
New South Wales Deputy Premier John Barilaro says Western Australia Premier Mark McGowan must be on the “whacky tobacco” and has slammed premiers over their knee jerk reactions to border closures.
An outbreak on Sydney’s Northern Beaches caused all states and territories to impose border restrictions with New South Wales, with some enacting hard measures.
“We didn’t lock down the border to Victoria until there was 140 to 180 cases a day,” Mr Barilaro told Sky News.
“Here we have a knee-jerk reaction again on 15. And of course Queensland closing its border with 15 cases yesterday.”
It was all based on health advice.
Three seats away, Ms Berejilkian affirmed her opinion on the border closures to reopen the country by Christmas.
Every state and territory leader was present at the national cabinet meeting in Canberra on Friday except Western Australia Premier Mark McGowan I ve made my position very clear from day one and I maintain that position, she said.
The premiers have been going head-to-head for months over opposing views on the COVID-19 restrictions.
Annastacia Palaszczuk closed the Queensland border on August 8 when New South Wales was declared a hot-spot for coronavirus.
It didn t reopen to greater Sydney until December 1.
