Kingstown – Residents shared their experiences of the 1979 eruption of the La Soufriere volcano in St Vincent earlier this week, prior to the evacuation order given by Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves yesterday and the explosive eruption this morning.
The University of the West Indies Seismic Research Centre said the eruption began at 8:41 a.m.
“This is a culmination of the seismic activity that began on April 8. The eruption is ongoing,” a statement said.
A resident of Big River, a commumity in Owia, says the earthquakes that are occuring at the Soufriere volcano, were to his knowledge, not a feature of the 1979 eruption.
