One further death and 100 new cases of Covid-19 have been reported by the Department of Health in Fermanagh and Omagh today (Thursday). It brings the total numnber of deaths to 54 while total positive cases are now at 4,275. With tighter restrictions set to come into action from Friday there were 17 Covid related deaths recorded across Northern Ireland with the total now standing at 1,414. Positive cases remain high as 1,410 people tested positive for the virus in the last 24 hours bringing the total figure for cases to 84,646. Breaking down Fermanagh by postal district from December 28 – January 3, 2021 shows that all postal districts have seen an increase of positive cases with some Fermanagh postcodes doubling the number of positive cases. BT92 has 151 postivie cases (72 last week), BT74 has 127 positive cases (63 last week) , BT94 has 73 positive cases(55 last week) and BT93 has 79 positive cases (40 last week).
There was one further death in Fermanagh and Omagh in the past 24 hours as cases continue to rise in the district. 130 new cases have been recorded by the Department of Health in Thursday update bringing the total to 3,668 in the Fermanagh and Omagh District. Across Northern Ireland, total positive cases rose to 72,834 following a further 1,929 positive cases reported by the Department. 8,228 people have tested positive for the virus in the last seven days. Breaking down Fermanagh by postal district shows from December 21-27, BT92 has 72 positive cases, BT74 has 63, BT94 has 55 and BT93 has 40. Fermanagh and Omagh currently has a seven day per 100k. However, there have still been 599 positive cases in the last week compared to 359 from December 17-23.

THE Western Trust is preparing for a third Covid surge as hospital admissions are on the rise again.
South West Acute Hospital in Enniskillen and Altnagelvin Hospital in Derry are working ‘beyond capacity’ to cope with Covid19 and also the winter flu season.
The number of positive patients in the local community have increased over the last number of days and the Trust is now preparing for a third surge with increasing Covid related admissions.

As of today (Monday), in Altnagelvin Hospital there are 43 Covid19 Patients, with three of these patients in ICU.
As the talk about restrictions being reintroduced following the Christmas period and the Executive due to meet today (Thursday) to consider what is the best way forward for Northern Ireland in an attempt to quell spread of Covid-19, a further 12 people have died related to the virus according to the daily update from the Department of Health. It brings the total number of deaths to 1,154 with 10 of those occuring in the last 24 hour reporting period and two outside of that period. None of the deaths were in the Fermanagh and Omagh District Council area, which remains the least affect Council area with 41. However, as reported yesterday by The Impartial Reporter there have been more deaths (14) in the area in December than there were during the first wave of pandemic (11).
