Man dies following road collision in Workington

Man dies following road collision in Workington A man who was involved in a road traffic collision yesterday has died. Police were contacted at 10.35am yesterday, to the report of a two vehicle road traffic collision on Washington Street, Workington. The collision involved a Suzuki Estate and a Ford Tourneo. The driver of the Suzuki, Robert Hodgson, 74, of Maryport, was taken to West Cumberland Hospital, Whitehaven, where he was pronounced dead. The family of Robert said: “Robert was a real character who you would never forget if you had met him. “We are devastated at losing him, he will be missed by all of his family and friends.”

West Cumberland Hospital staff bring festive cheer

FRONTLINE workers are cheering up their patients this Christmas with festive-themed scrubs, thanks to a generous donation. Staff at the West Cumberland Hospital in Whitehaven received a donation to purchase Christmas scrubs and face masks. A spokesperson for North Cumbria Integrated Care said: “Don’t they scrub up well!? Staff in the Emergency Department at the West Cumberland Hospital have had special festive scrubs made to wear over the Christmas period.” The NHS key workers wanted to bring some festive cheer into the wards during a particularly challenging Christmas period. A&E nurse Anita Howland suggested Christmas scrubs as a way of bringing some cheer.

As one of the most unusual years in living memory comes to a close, this Christmas will undoubtedly also feel very different. Nevertheless, staff at the West Cumberland Hospital in Whitehaven are keen to make sure some of the Christmas magic is felt by those staying in and working at the west Cumbrian hospital. Nichola Mitchinson, who works in the hospital s emergency assessment unit, explained: This Christmas is slightly different for obvious reasons and we think we really need to get in to the Christmas spirit for our patients.
