Local Schools Named 2021 California Distinguished School

(Shutterstock) LAMORINDA, CA State schools Superintendent Tony Thurmond named an additional 121 schools including 28 in the greater Bay Area as 2021 California Distinguished Schools including Acalanes, Campolindo, and Miramonte high schools. The award honors schools who have made improvements in test scores, suspension rates, and conditions and climate. The state originally honored 102 schools March 18, but after further review of the data added the additional schools. Our thanks go to the entire communities surrounding these schools, including the teachers, administrators, and classified employees as well as the students and their families who, through teamwork, all accomplished this impressive achievement together, Thurmond said in a statement released Tuesday by the California Department of Education.

WCCUSD selects Dr Kenneth Chris Hurst, Sr as new superintendent

By Kathy Chouteau The West Contra Costa Unified School District (WCCUSD) has a new superintendent. At its Wed., April 14 meeting, the Board of Trustees voted 5-0 to name Dr. Kenneth “Chris” Hurst, Sr. as the district’s next superintendent. Dr. Hurst, who will leave his role as superintendent of the Othello School District in Othello, Wash. to lead the WCCUSD, will commence his three-year contract May 17. In his new role, Dr. Hurst will bear the distinction of the being the WCCUSD’s first permanent African American superintendent.
