Fire crews were called to a report of a middle-aged man who had fallen through the lake s ice today, March 2. The man was found in the water, roughly 20 feet away from the shore and was hanging on to the edge of the ice, fire chief Jason Broland said in a press release. Having dressed in specialty suits, eight firefighters attended the rescue and were able to enter the lake and pull the man to safety.

Image Credit: Submitted/West Kelowna Fire Rescue February 19, 2021 - 7:11 AM Fire officials have issued a warning about burning candles following what they say was an accidental fire at about 10:20 p.m. yesterday, Feb. 18 West Kelowna Fire Rescue rushed to a home in the 3100 block of Vineyard View Way in West Kelowna to find a fire in the basement of the home. Residents had already evacuated the building by the time they arrived. They quickly knocked the fire down before it could spread to the first floor. While a fire department news release did not state the cause of the fire it did “remind residents to avoid using candles in bedrooms, bathrooms, and sleeping areas” and to make sure they put candles out when they leave the room, the home or go to bed.

January 30, 2021 - 9:00 AM Two residents of a West Kelowna mobile home were taken to the hospital last night after a fire inside their home. West Kelowna Fire Rescue firefighters responded to a mobile home fire at 1880 Old Boucherie Road at roughly 10 p.m., Jan. 29. Firefighters at the scene determined the two occupants of the home had been able to rescue themselves, according to a press release issued by the fire department. The fire was quickly extinguished and the home s occupants were sent to Kelowna General Hospital to receive treatment for their burns and smoke inhalation, according to the press release.
