The Oyo State chapter of Socialist Party of Nigeria (SPN) has described the N1 billion security vote given to Governor Seyi Makinde monthly as meaningless.
SPN alleged that the rising insecurity in the state in the last few weeks has exposed the inadequacies of the Makinde led administration in the area of security.
Our correspondent reports that Oyo State has witnessed a series of unrest, kidnapping, attacks on citizens and killing in major towns and cities in the state due to poor security network in the state.
The SPN claimed it was unfortunate that Makinde failed to curb the spate of insecurity in the state especially in Oke Ogun and Ibarapa geo-political zones, despite the huge security votes allocated to him.
Former Head of Military Intelligence and Oyo State Chairman of Western Nigerian Security Network (a.k.a. Amotekun), Gen. Kunle Togun (rtd.), has said that the insecurity in Oyo is deep; hence residents should not expect Amotekun operatives to perform magic in a month.
Togun stated this yesterday while featuring as guest of a parley on the Nigerian situation organised by the National Association of Public Affairs Analysts (NAPAA) at Sango, Ibadan. x
Present at the parley were frontline analysts, columnists and commentators, including the Executive Secretary of NAPAA, Jare Ajayi; Mashood Erubami, Adeleke Pamilerin, Omololu Ejidiran and Segun Ogungbayi.

WITH the police deficient and the promised succour from the Western Nigerian Security Network known as Operation Amotekun yet to materialise, serial security breaches in Oyo State are inflicting a heavy toll on citizens. Kidnapping for ransom, highway robbery and herdsmen attacks are escalating to dangerous proportions in different parts of the state, affecting residents, expatriates and business. The governor, Seyi Makinde, will undoubtedly require new energy, initiatives and uncommon courage to overcome this messy security challenge.
Right through 2020, the state has witnessed high-level insecurity. At the weekend, the vast chronicle of breaches swelled up again after a female quarry worker was abducted in the Moniya-Ojoo area of Ibadan, the state capital. Damilola Agboola’s kidnapping comes a week after kidnappers seized two Indians in front of a pharmaceutical firm near the (old) tollgate on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. S
