People’s Democratic Party (PDP) chairmen in Lagos, Osun, Ekiti and the Ogun States have raised the alarm over a plan by a State Governor, to bring over 150 armed thugs dressed in the uniform of the Western Nigeria Security Network codenamed Operation Amotekun to Osogbo for the South-West Zonal Congress on Monday.
The State Chairmen, who spoke through the Ogun State PDP Chairman, Dr Sikirulai Ogundele, said the presence of anyone in Amotekun uniform anywhere near the congress venue will be resisted.

A total of 4,556 people were killed in Nigeria in 2020, according to a recent report issued by the Nigeria-based organisation, Global Rights.
The report which was titled ‘Mass Atrocities 2020 Tracking’ disclosed that the fatalities gathered between January and December.

It also revealed that the statistics escalated the loss percentage to 43% from the number of casualties in 2019, as 3,188 were civilians, and 698 were state security agents.
According to the report shared with the SaharaReports by a human rights activist, Prof. Chidi Odinkalu, Borno state in the North-East had the highest number of fatalities followed by Kaduna state in the North-West.
Osun begins fresh recruitment into Amotekun
State Government has commenced fresh round of recruitment into the Western Nigeria Security Network codenamed Amotekun Corps in the state.
Recall that the Field Commander of the Corps, Mr Amitolu Shittu, had last year June announced that 13, 000 applicants had applied for recruitment.
Since then, no further development was heard concerning the exercise.
But a statement signed by the Secretary of Amotekun Board, Hassan Agbelekale, titled ‘Recruitment into Amotekun Corps’, said the government would commence recruitment of suitably qualified candidates into the corps in Osun.
The statement read in parts, “Government of Osun wishes to inform the general public that the Osun Security Network Agency and Amotekun Corps will commence the recruitment of suitably qualified candidates into Amotekun Corps.
