Amotekun corps not permitted to carry arms - Former IGP, Ehindero

A former Inspector General of the Nigeria Police Force, Sunday Ehindero, has said operatives of the Western Nigeria Security Network, otherwise known as Amotekun, are not allowed to carry arms under any guise. Ehindero said this in Abeokuta, the Ogun State Capital on Monday where he was the anchor of a sensitisation awareness campaign on community policing. The former police boss emphasised that the Amotekun corps is just like a vigilante group and as such, has no powers to carry arms. According to him, the Western security outfit should key into community policing and join the police in intelligence gathering.

Governor Makinde toying with Oyo insecurity – AD chieftain alleges

By Christiana Ekpa A chieftain of Alliance for Democracy (AD), in Oyo State, Engineer Oyedele Hakeem Alao, has urged Governor Seyi Makinde to immediately address incessant killings in the state. Alao urged Makinde to take issues of security of lives and property in the state with all seriousness instead of treating them with levity. Our correspondent recalls that a chieftain of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in State, Fatai Aborode and a security guard were killed in Igangan and Ibadan last week. But, Alao while reacting, said it is worrisome that killing of innocent citizens still persists despite the inauguration of Western Nigeria Security Network (WNSN), Amotekun in the State.
