A traffic stop in Yucca Valley early Saturday morning resulted in the recovery of a stolen vehicle and an arrest. About 3:15 a.m. a deputy made a stop of a white GMC near El Dorado Drive, west of Emerson Avenue. Inside the vehicle was Michael Martin, 30, of Joshua Tree, who is a convicted felon. The deputy determined the GMC had been reported stolen. Inside the vehicle the deputy found a rifle and ammunition, which Martin is prohibited from possessing. Michael Martin was arrested on suspicion of possession of a stolen vehicle, being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition, and resisting arrest. Martin was booked into West Valley Detention Center with his bail set at $50,000.
A woman was hospitalized in critical condition after being shot in the face in Fontana, and a man who drove her to the hospital was arrested in connection with the crime, according to the Fontana Police Department.
On Dec. 21 at about 7:18 a.m., police received a call from the hospital with information about the 38-year-old victim. Officers went to the location and learned that Mose Thomas, 34, of Rialto had taken the victim there. Thomas is known to the victim and involved in an ongoing intimate relationship with her, police said.
Officers then went to the 16900 block of San Bernardino Avenue and located the crime scene at an apartment complex in the area.
A Joshua Tree woman, who has more than a dozen trespassing citations from Tortoise Rock Casino in Twentynine Palms, tried to enter the casino again Tuesday morning using a false identification. About 9 a.m., the security guard recognized Allison Lewallen, 32, as she was coming in and asked her to leave. When they tried to put her in their patrol vehicle, she became combative and struck one security officer in his legs. Security called for Sheriff’s deputies who arrested Allison Lewallen for investigation of assault on an officer, trespassing, and for her $400,000 in arrest warrants, most of which are drug-related charges and petty theft. Lewallen was booked into the West Valley Detention Center with her bail set at $25,000.

A naked Landers man was arrested Monday morning after he tried multiple times to attack Sheriff’s deputies. Deputies were called to the 1800 block of Yucca Mesa Road in Landers because Timothy Olivar, 30, was running around naked, carrying a pole. Residents complained that Olivar was going up on their porches and knocking on their doors and windows. When deputies arrived, he at first tried to flee before surrendering. Deputies said Olivar showed obvious signs of being under the influence of a stimulant drug and he was taken to the Morongo Basin Jail. Before Olivar was booked, he charged a deputy; two other deputies intervened and pulled him off. When deputies placed Olivar in a cell to sober up, he again attacked another deputy by grabbing his lower legs in an attempt to take him down. The other deputies restrained Olivar. He was then placed in a patrol car to be taken to West Valley Detention Center. When the deputy and Olivar arrived at West Valley, Olivar began banging his head
