Newly hired Grant County Planning and Community Development Director Priscilla Shoup tries out her new desk and picks up a little advice for her new job from her predecessor, Mischa Larisch. Shoup, who has been working in the town of Silver City’s Community Development Department, will take over from Larisch on May 10.
Priscilla Arredondo Shoup has been named Grant County planning and community development director, and will take on that job beginning May 10. She will be the first woman to serve in the position.
A Grant County native and graduate of Cobre High School and Western New Mexico University, Shoup said she is “very excited” about the opportunity. She added that she is “glad to be staying in my home county,” and welcomes the challenges ahead.

Wrestlers from five New Mexico high schools competed at Western New Mexico University’s football stadium in Silver City last Friday in a rare outdoors, dual-match competition hosted by Silver High School. Silver and WNMU hope to collaborate to make this an annual event.

A unique partnership between Silver High and Western New Mexico last weekend created one of the most unusual scenes of the year in what has already been the most unconventional of prep sports seasons:
