There is only one way to tackle the raging Covid-19 pandemic, according to Trinamool leader Derek O Brien, and that is to prioritise three things: Vaccine, vaccine, and vaccine . He, however, firmly blamed the central government s politics for matters worsening.
West Bengal yesterday reported 7,713 new Covid-19 cases and 34 deaths, taking the overall figures to 6.51 lakh infections and 10,540 fatalities. The state is also in the middle of a tightly fought Assembly election, with massive rallies ad roadshows being held by all political sides, mostly ignoring the pandemic protocol.
Trinamool Congress supremo also blamed the Election Commission (EC) for curtailing her campaigning time.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Sunday said BJP leaders “from Delhi” who are bringing “outsiders” for campaigning, without COVID-19 tests, are responsible for the spike in coronavirus cases in the state.
The Trinamool Congress supremo also blamed the Election Commission (EC) for curtailing her campaigning time, for the ongoing assembly polls, by five days while turning a blind eye to her plea to club the last three phases of the polls in the wake of the surge in coronavirus cases.

Kolkata (West Bengal) [India], April 19 (ANI): West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will discontinue her campaigns in Kolkata for the remaining three phases of the ongoing assembly polls in the state amidst an alarming increase in COVID-19 cases.
On April 26, she will only hold a symbolic meeting on the last day of campaigning in the state capital, informed Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Derek O Brien. Mamata Banerjee will not campaign in Kolkata anymore. Only one symbolic meeting on the last day of campaigning in the city on April 26 will be held. She slashed time for all her election rallies in all districts and is now restricted to just 30 minutes, Brien said in a tweet.

The polling for the fifth phase of West Bengal assembly elections began at 7 am on Saturday across 45 assembly segments amid tight security.
Long queues were seen outside polling booths where voting is underway adhering to COVID-19 protocols, official sources said.
Over one crore voters are eligible to exercise their franchise to decide the political fate of 342 candidates.
Security measures have been heightened for the fifth phase in view of the violence in the previous phase, which witnessed the death of five people in Cooch Behar district, including four in CISF firing.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi today accused West Bengal Chief Minister of conspiring to use the bodies of the five victims of last week's Cooch Behar firing to consolidate her vote bank.
