A day after Amit Shah’s scathing attack on the West Bengal government, which he accused of blocking Central government schemes and stymying the state’s development, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday accused the Union Home Minister of lying while criticising the state’s level of development.
She described the minister’s figures on Bengal’s various development parameters as “garbage of lies”. The Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader labelled the BJP a “cheatingbaaz party” and claimed that “for politics, they can do anything”.
On Sunday, the Home Minister had said Banerjee’s time was up in Bengal, “which has witnessed infiltration and corruption under the TMC rule”. At a press conference in Birbhum, Shah said Bengal was once among the better-performing states, but now it was doing poorly on almost every indicator, be it GDP or per capita income.

Suvendu Adhikari, who was among the most prominent Trinamool Congress leaders, on Saturday joined the Bharatiya Janata Party in the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah. At a mega rally in Midnapore district, Shah welcomed Adhikari into the saffron party and took a swipe at West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
Besides Adhikari, six MLAs of the Trinamool Congress, one each from the Communist Party of India (Marxist), the Communist Party of India and the Congress also joined the BJP, according to PTI. Two-time TMC MP from Bardhaman Purba Lok Sabha constituency Sunil Mondal also defected to the BJP.
An Uttar Pradesh minister on Saturday accused West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata of going the Leftist way of politics of violence after finding her party Trinamool Congress base eroding in the state. Uttar Pradesh Minister for Power and Additional Energy Resources Shrikant Sharma hurled the allegation while condemning the recent attack on BJP national president J P Nadda s convoy in the state. Like the Leftist, she has adopted politics of violence as she finds her days as West Bengal chief minister numbered, Sharma said in a virtual meeting with a group of reporters here. Condemning the attack on Nadda during his visit to West Bengal, he said people of the state are ashamed of the filthy language Mamta had used after the attack as people from Bengal are known for their suave and sophisticated language and culture .

Within hours of jumping ship, rebel Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Suvendu Adhikari was seen delivering politically charged speeches as his newfound role in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
At the rally in Midnapore, Suvendu Adhikari slammed West Bengal chief minister and TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee by urging those present at the rally to remove extortionist nephew, throwing in a jibe at Trinamool s Abhishek Banerjee, Mamata s nephew, widely believed to be the point of contention that led to Adhikari s exit from the party.

New Delhi [India], December 18 (ANI): The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has decided to provide Z category security to rebel TMC leader Suvendu Adhikari in West Bengal.
According to the order issued by MHA, Security arrangement for Suvendu Adhikari has been examined in this Ministry in consultation with Central Security Agencies and it has been decided to provide him Z category CRPF security cover with the bulletproof vehicle in West Bengal. Y + category CRPF security cover in other states, MHA added.
Adhikari recently tendered his resignation to party chief and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. He also resigned from the West Bengal Legislative Assembly tendering his resignation to the Speaker.
