Orange County parents and legal guardians of minors ages 12 to 15 can now schedule a COVID-19 vaccination appointment or walk-in to County of Orange Point-of-Dispensing (POD) sites offering Pfizer.
On May 10, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration amended the Pfizer vaccine’s Emergency Use Authorization to allow administration for 12 to 15-year-olds, following clinical trials that proved it safe for this age group with only non-serious side effects like fatigue and headache. Subsequently, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s vaccine safety review panel and the Western States Scientific Safety Review Workgroup recommended this week that the vaccine is safe and highly effective in protecting this age group against COVID-19.

SEATTLE Washington health leaders said Wednesday that K-12 schools should prepare for full-time, in-person learning this fall.
The Washington State Department of Health (DOH) is expected to release COVID-19 health and safety guidance for the 2021-2022 school year later this week.
Lacy Fehrenbach, deputy secretary for COVID-19 response for the DOH, said the upcoming guidance is intended to “help private and public K-12 schools operate safely during the COVID-19 pandemic.”

CANBERRA, Australia Australia has reached a supply agreement for 25 million doses of the Moderna coronavirus vaccine.
Moderna said Thursday that the deal includes 10 million doses of vaccine against the initial coronavirus strain to be delivered in 2021 and 15 million doses of an updated variant booster to be delivered in 2022.
The vaccines have yet to be approved by the Australian regulator, the Therapeutic Goods Administration. Pfizer and AstraZeneca are the only coronavirus vaccines approved for use in Australia so far.
All three vaccines require two doses.
Prime Minister Scott Morrison says he expects the first Moderna vaccines to arrive in Australia in the last three months of 2021.

COVID-19 vaccinations are expected to begin Thursday in Oregon for youth age 12 to 15, according to top state health officials.
Oregon Health Authority Director Patrick Allen said he anticipates “all the final approvals will be in place” by the end of the day Wednesday and vaccinations can begin Thursday.

vaccine shots to this pre-teen and teen group as soon as they get the OK from the health authority. Initial demand in the Portland area is expected to be strong, with at least one pediatrician’s office reporting a waitlist 600 kids long.
