LIVE: Coronavirus Tier review day - Coventry and Warwickshire remain in Tier 3 The toughest Covid-19 restrictions will remain in place Coventry and Warwickshire will remain under the toughest Covid-19 restrictions it has been announced. The Government s Tier Review leaves both areas under Tier-3. Infections had been falling until recent days when a rise has been recorded again. Today s Tier review is the first one by the government since the new measures were enforced on the day England s second national lockdown was lifted on Wednesday December 2. It was then that, for the first time, Coventry, Warwickshire and Solihuill were placed together as a sub-region and were put into Tier 3.

New cycle hire scheme coming to West Midlands next year

A new cycle hire scheme is due to launch across the West Midlands next year. The operator of London’s Santander Cycles has been appointed by Transport for West Midlands (TfWM) to offer bikes for hire in Birmingham, Coventry, Dudley, Sandwell, Solihull, Wolverhampton and Walsall from next spring. Contractor Serco will initially provide 1,500 bikes for hire, of which 10% will be e-bikes. The pedal cycles will all have three gears to cope with the hilly parts of the region and fitted with laser safety lights that project an image of a bicycle five metres in front of the bike. The bikes are manufactured in Stratford-upon-Avon by Pashley Cycles who also works with Serco to provide the bikes for London and Edinburgh. Supporting technology will be provided by British micromobility operator Beryl, who also works with Serco in London.

University of Birmingham drives diversity in tech roles with new scholarships

The University of Birmingham is offering scholarships to women across the Midlands to help them improve their skills and secure jobs in technology. 50 Women in Tech scholarships of £4,000 each are available to women studying on two of the University’s short courses. The Coding and Data Analytics Boot Camps are intensive 24-week part time programmes that aim to help adult learners and working professionals into digital careers. The awards are being offered as part of a digital skills training fund from the West Midlands Combined Authority . They will help address the digital skills gap and the gender imbalance by targeting financial support to unemployed and under-employed women, enabling them to enrol in Boot Camps and to progress into highly skilled, digital careers.
