Next Saturday the 18th Annual Swim Teal Lake: Benefit for Diabetes is On

ABC 10/CW5 Next Saturday, July 31st, the 18th annual “Swim Teal Lake: Benefit for Diabetes” is on. If you’d like to participate in the iconic swim, registration is open until the morning of. All donations go to the U.P. Diabetes Outreach Network to strengthen diabetes care and support across the U.P. They’ve raised over two hundred thousand dollars the last 17 years. This year’s race will consist of the traditional 2.25 mile swim across Teal Lake and a short ¼ mile swim. The “Short–n–Sweet” swim will be a 1/4 mile event open to all ages! It’s a great intro to open water swimming.

Grant recipients are: ≤ Bay Cliff Health Camp – $5,000: Funding will assist with the purchase and installation of new ADA compliant doors. ≤ City of Negaunee – $5,000: Funding will assist with the Teal Lake Beach Expansion Project. ≤ Community Foundation of Marquette County – $5,138: Funds will support the purchase of AED units West End first responders. ≤ Ishpeming Rotary Club – $7,500: Funding will assist with the Teal Lake Dock and Kayak Launch Project. ≤ Kiwanis Club of Ishpeming – $2,500: Funding will assist with the playground project at Lake Bancroft. ≤ Michigamme Township/DDA – $2,362: Funds will support the purchase of exercise equipment for the fitness center.

Feb 24, 2021 MARQUETTE –The West End Health Foundation is accepting competitive grant applications for Spring Cycle 2021. The application deadline is 5 p.m. April 1. Applications are being accepted for capital and facility improvements and equipment grants that will improve the health and wellness of residents of the West End of Marquette County. Funding for the Spring 2021 Cycle will be limited to capital improvements and the purchase of equipment. Additional information about the West End Health Foundation and an application form is available at the Foundations website www.westendhf.org. The WEHF funding is directed to non-profit organizations that provide programs and services which address one or more of the following as Areas of Concern; chronic disease education management or screenings; mental health and social or emotional support; obesity; environmental health; access to health care; substance abuse prevention or treatment; assistance to the uninsured or under-insured;

Journal staff ISHPEMING The West End Health Foundation recently approved $39,900 in grants intended to meet the foundation’s mission of advancing health and wellness in the west end. The grants approved for the fall programmatic grant cycle are intended to support health-related programs and services that will benefit Marquette County’s west end communities, organizers said in an announcement. Receiving grants were: ≤ Caregivers Incentive Project, $7,500 for the Caregiver Academy and to support mentored in-home training. ≤ Feeding America West Michigan, $6,400 to provide mobile food truck services in Marquette County’s west end. ≤ Ishpeming Negaunee Nice Community Education, $6,000 to support the Beyond 26 program for adults with disabilities.
