Anger over £4 6 million railway station car park plan

A company which already offers parking nearby is seeking planning permission to formalise its provision. And the firm, Airedale Tree Surgeons, says its scheme would cost taxpayers nothing – and offer more spaces. The company is proposing a car park with more than 220 spaces – including parking for the disabled, motorbikes and cycles – at its wood yard in Steeton. Locally-sourced crushed stone would be used to surface the site and vehicular access would be via the existing entrance from Station Road. A footpath will take pedestrians direct to the southbound platform of Steeton & Silsden railway station. Meanwhile, West Yorkshire Combined Authority wants to build a three-storey station car park on the site of the existing one, which would create an extra 104 places.
