Green River Star - Kathy Ryder Kathy Ryder, 69, passed away Thursday, February 4, 2021 at her home in Rock Springs, Wyoming, surrounded by her family. She was a resident of Rock Springs for her whole life. Mrs. Ryder was born February 13, 1951 in Rock Springs, Wyoming; the daughter of James R. Zelenka and Elsie M. Cilensek Zelenka. She attended schools in Rock Springs and was a 1969 graduate of Rock Springs High School. She obtained an Associates of Education from Western Wyoming Community College. Kathy married Sam J. Gary Lee Collins II

Green River Star - Gary Lee Collins II Gary Lee Collins II, 38, passed away Monday, February 1, 2021 at The University of Utah Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah following a 23-year battle with Granulomatosis with Polyangiitis. He was a life-long resident of Wyoming. Mr. Collins was born February 25, 1982 in Rock Springs, Wyoming; the son of Gary Lee Collins Sr. and Pearl Arguello. He was very close with his mother, Pearl; they spoke daily and he loved going over to her house for dinner-especially when she was making homemade tortillas. He attended schools in Green River, Wyoming and was a 2000 graduate of Green River High School.

Western Hosts Southwest STEM Regional Science Fair

ROCK SPRINGS A number of southwest Wyoming students recently showed off their academic prowess at the Southwest Regional Science Fair hosted by Western Wyoming Community College in Rock Springs. The event took place on Thursday, February 4 among Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) students between grades 6-12. The fair was an opportunity for students to apply their STEM knowledge, engage in scientific thought, and gain new ideas and knowledge from peers and educators. Local STEM teachers dedicate much of their time to prepare their students for this educational opportunity.  Advertisement - Story continues below. The Regional Science Fair is an affiliate of Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF), which is the world’s largest international pre-college science competition. The categories, divisions, rules, and judging criteria of the fair are in line with the Intel ISEF requirements.
