Parents of first-graders in the Bellingham School District in the state of Washington were reportedly dismissed by school officials after protesting a teacher’s decision to read a book about transgender reality TV teen star Jazz Jennings to the young children.
A report at Young America’s Foundation (YAF) noted the group received an anonymous tip that first-grade teacher Jennifer Miller read
I Am Jazz, a book that explains how a toddler boy transitioned to live as a girl.
According to the report, Miller admitted she read the book to her first-graders in response to an email from one outraged parent.

UW to require COVID vaccines for fall semester
The University of Washington is the latest college in Washington state to announce a COVID-19 vaccine requirement for returning to campus in the fall.
CHENEY, Wash. - Eastern Washington University will not require students to get a COVID-19 vaccine to attend school this fall.
The announcement from EWU Interim President David May breaks with most, if not all, other major colleges in the state. BELLINGHAM, Wash. (AP) Western Washington University in Bellingham will require students, staff and faculty to be vaccinated against COVID-19 when in-person classes start again this fall.
University President Sabah Randhawa made the announcement Wednesday, The Bellingham Herald reported.
Randhawa said the decision was endorsed by the school’s board of trustees at a special meeting in the belief that it will protect the health and safety of the community on- and off-campus and speed the return to more normal in-person operations.

BELLINGHAM, Wash. Western Washington University will require all students, faculty and staff to be vaccinated for COVID-19 before returning to campus in the fall.
The university’s Board of Trustees made the decision Wednesday, saying the move will protect the health and safety of the school community and speed a return to more normal personal interactions.
A statement says claims for personal, religious or medical exemptions will be considered.
The school will make vaccines available to those who can’t get them elsewhere.
Western joins the University of Washington, Washington State and some other colleges in Washington that will require vaccinations for people returning to campus.
