(WKBT)   On March 16th of this year, West Salem School District students went home with expectations to return to school in the following weeks.  That never happened. West Salem School District worked through many challenges over the last 9 months. Superintendent Ryan Rieber thinks change is a good thing. It’s also something that’s been a constant over the past year in the West Salem School District. “Unfortunately it’s been a pandemic but I think in the long run we’ve learned an awful lot from these last 9 months and we’re going to be better for it at some point in time,” said Rieber.

They stopped at the homes of all 1,800 district students to drop off small gifts. While the kids got the gifts, staff got something special too. “As we go into the holidays with the way this year has been, it’s just to show a little bit of happiness, a little bit of kindness. And to let the students know that we miss you, we’re looking forward to seeing you again. And we want you to have a great holiday season,” said West Salem School District board member Sean Gavaghan.

West Salem schools to resume in-person learning Jan. 4, athletics can start now December 15, 2020 6:07 PM Site staff Updated: WEST SALEM, Wis. (WKBT) Students in the West Salem School District will resume in-person learning beginning Jan. 4, under a school board decision Monday night. Upon their return from winter break, K-5 students will attend face-to-face classes five days a week, while students in sixth through 12th grades will resume learning in the district’s blended instructional model. The sixth-12th-grade students will attend either Mondays and Wednesdays or Tuesdays and Thursdays, with Fridays devoted to checking in with teachers and catching up on any work that hasn’t been completed for the week.
