NJ man and woman charged in money laundering, identity theft scheme

MyCentralJersey.com NEW BRUNSWICK – A city man and woman are accused of the theft of more than $250,000 and personal identifying information from 50 victims as a result of a joint multi-state investigation headed by the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office Special Investigations Unit. Shemar Rogers and Tariah Darby, both 22, were arrested Tuesday and charged with second-degree conspiracy to commit theft by deception. Rogers has been charged with first-degree promoting organized street crime, and second-degree money laundering, identity theft and trafficking in personal identity information. Darby has been charged with third-degree money laundering, Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone said. Rogers was previously arrested Feb. 25 and charged with third-degree attempted theft by deception and conspiracy to commit theft by deception, authorities said.

Capt. Michael Perruccio said members of the Detective Division, Community Support Unit and Emergency Services Unit served two high-risk warrants around 6 p.m. Monday in the case of a Jan. 28 kidnapping. Jalen Faucette-Smith, 20, of New Britain, was taken into custody at the West Farms Mall on New Britain Avenue. Teesa McElroy, also 20 and from New Britain, was taken into custody after a vehicle stop on I-84 in Hartford. Perruccio said during the Jan. 28 incident, a 21-year-old man was kidnapped as he walked eastbound on Boulevard from Trout Brook Drive.

In wake of buglaries, police urge car owners to keep cars looked

Wellesley Police Department Wellesley Townsman The Wellesley Police Department is investigating a series of early morning car break-ins in the Pilgrim Road area on Feb. 21. Approximately 20 vehicles were entered and in some cases, valuables or money were removed. All of the vehicles were unlocked. The burglaries happened in the Westgate and Pilgrim Road neighborhoods, as well as Pleasant Street. Two vehicles were stolen as well. One stolen vehicle was located by Wellesley officers nearby. The second vehicle was located a day later by the West Hartford Police Department in Connecticut. Both of the stolen vehicles were unlocked and had the keys in them at the time of the theft.

Read / Add Comments A Connecticut home undergoing renovations was destroyed by a catastrophic early morning fire that took firefighters at least an hour to get under control. The West Hartford Fire Department responded to the fire at 711 Prospect Ave., around 6:24 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 24, said Fire Chief Greg H. Priest.  When firefighters arrived on the scene they found flames visible from the second floor have heavy fire from several dies of the single-family home located in an area that is known for its older historic homes, the chief said. As units were preparing for a search/rescue and fire attack, additional information from neighbors was provided that no one was currently occupying the residence but that work was being done on it, Priest said.
