A man and woman were found shot to death Monday afternoon inside a home on the city s Westside, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff s Office.
The bodies of the two, both over 50, were found by a neighbor about 2:15 p.m. in a front room of the home in the 5900 block of Jacks Road, between Lane Avenue and Pickettville Road, Sgt. Adam Blinn said.
Both were suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, Blinn said.
John Ward Gill was charged Sunday with second-degree murder/not premeditated, jail records show.
Deputies were called by Gill s wife about 3 p.m. to the home in the 5300 block of Razorback Court, saying she found her husband and his brother injured, the Sheriff s Office said. Thomas Melvin Gill, 70, was found lying on the floor next to a bed covered in blood, the incident report said. Deputies also found John Gill lying semi-conscious on the floor nearby, bleeding from his head and face.
When Clay Fire Rescue got to the home, they declared the older brother dead, the Sheriff s Office said.
While a couple of large Jacksonville companies entered 2021 with initial public offerings pending, several smaller firms also filed plans for stock sales late last year.
The latest is a company called Van Zant House Inc., owner of a Westside Jacksonville property where brothers Ronnie, Johnny and Donnie Van Zant grew up.
It’s an iconic site for Southern Rock music fans. Ronnie was a founder and lead singer of Lynyrd Skynyrd, who died with five others in 1977 when the band’s plane crashed in Mississippi.
When the band reformed 10 years later, his younger brother Johnny took over as lead singer.
