Teenagers and young adults statewide and in many parts of the Bay Area are getting coronavirus shots at significantly lower rates than older residents, prompting health officials to step up efforts to persuade young people to be vaccinated as soon as possible.
Statewide, just 32% of those aged 16 and 17 have gotten at least one shot, compared with 60% in the overall eligible population and 70% or more among people over 50, state data shows.

LOS ANGELES, Calif. â Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti announced Friday that the COVID-19 mass vaccination site at Dodger Stadium will close by the end of May, part of a trend in California to bring doses closer to where people live as appointments in some places go unfilled.
Winding down operations at the stadium marks the transition of the cityâs vaccination efforts to appointment-free options as well as putting more doses into walk-up centers and mobile clinics, the mayor said in a statement.

SANTA CLARA COUNTY, CA Santa Clara County vaccinated its millionth resident for COVID-19 on Friday, with officials holding a news briefing to celebrate the milestone even as they acknowledged there is work to be done in ensuring the rest of the eligible population is inoculated.
Of the 1.6 million eligible residents in the county, 62 percent have received at least one dose and about a third are fully vaccinated. In contrast to just a few weeks ago, when vaccine supply was lacking and appointments were quickly snatched up, every vaccination site from mass vaccination centers like Levi s Stadium to smaller clinics in the county had slots available as of Friday morning.
