As the 2021 hurricane season approaches, Flagler County strives to secure the final properties needed to repair the dunes that were damaged in previous hurricanes.
Season begins June 1
Emergency Management Director Jonathan Lord told the County Commission on May 17 that 17-20 named storms are predicted by weather experts this year; the average is 14. Last year, there were a record 30 named storms.
However, Lord said, “None of this matters. I don’t care if it’s the mildest hurricane season ever we have to be prepared for a storm no matter what.”

Learn basic disaster and emergency response skills – such as disaster preparedness, fire safety, and basic first aid – through the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training program. This training will be conducted using online and in-person sessions.
Flagler County Emergency Management, Flagler County Fire Rescue, and Flagler Volunteer Services invite residents to sign up for the no-cost, 24-hour program that will be offered in a manner that supports social distancing. Emergency Management Director Jonathan Lord describes the program as an important partnership between the community and professional first responders.
