The back-to-back inauguration of projects will formally mark the start of operations of the upgraded Port of Dumaguete and the newly-developed Dumaguete (Sibulan) Airport.
President Duterte will grace the twin event as the guest of honor and keynote speaker, with Transportation Secretary Arthur P. Tugade and other officials from the national and local government units also in attendance.
“We need to roll up our sleeves and make haste. These projects that we are developing should be utilized by the Filipino people in no time,” Tugade said.
One of the projects to be inaugurated on Thursday is the upgraded Port of Dumaguete, a project of the DOTr and the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) that involves the construction of a two-storey Port Operations Building (POB). It can accommodate around 500 passengers.

In a virtual press briefing Wednesday, March 3, officials from the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA), the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA), and the Cebu Ports Authority (CPA) laid out the latest developments and plans of their respective agencies amid the adverse impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
PPA General Manager Jay Daniel Santiago said that the agency remains committed in building and developing port projects across the archipelago, as infrastructure projects remain crucial in the inter-zonal movement of people and goods across the country.

Anyone seeking a contract, accreditation or permit from the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) starting next month, February 2, must plant a thousand trees, or a hundred thousand if he wants to operate a port.
The effectivity date marks the end of the 15-day publication period of the PPA tree planting order, reckoned from Tuesday, this week (January 19, 2021).
Specifically, PPA Administrative Order No. 14-2020, signed by PPA General Manager Jay Daniel Santiago, requires the applicants or grantees of contracts, accreditations and permits, among others, to plant 1,000 seedlings of trees or mangroves in coordination with the local office of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) within their business locations.
