Latest live news updates | The ruling Congress won six municipal corporations and emerged as the largest party in the seventh, sweeping the urban body polls in Punjab on Wednesday. The Congress won in Bathinda, Hoshiarpur, Kapurthala, Abohar, Batala and Pathankot, in the civic polls held against the backdrop of the farmers agitation. Earlier in the day, the Cabinet approved production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme worth Rs 12,195 crore for telecom equipment manufacturing, Union minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said. He added that the government is positioning India as a global powerhouse for manufacturing, and has created a conducive environment for ease of doing business.

Latest live news updates: The Delhi Police on Monday alleged that climate activist Disha Ravi along with two other suspects Nikita Jacob and Shantanu created the toolkit document related to the farmers protest and shared in on social media. The police claimed Disha, who was arrested by the force on Saturday from Bengaluru, sent the toolkit to teen climate activist Greta Thunberg via Telegram app. Addressing a press conference, Joint Commissioner of Police (Cyber) Prem Nath claimed that Disha deleted a WhatsApp group she created to spread the toolkit . The Delhi Police earlier said non-bailable warrants have been issued against Jacob and Shantanu for allegedly sharing the toolkit on social media.

Latest News LIVE: At least fifteen people died and more than 30 were injured on Friday when an explosion ripped through a fireworks factory at Achankulam village in Virudhunagar district of Tamil Nadu, multiple reports said. The ‘Sree Maariyamman fireworks’ factory had stored firecrackers in a room that caught fire and led to the explosion, the Indian Express website reported. Police told the website the explosion happened at around 1:30 pm. Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh each to the kin of the deceased, writing on Twitter to express his condolences.
Representative image A Delhi court on Tuesday remanded Punjabi actor-activist Deep Sidhu, accused in the Republic Day violence case, to seven days police custody. Sidhu was produced before Metropolitan Magistrate Prigya Gupta at Tis Hazari court. Police had sought 10 days custody of the accused, which was opposed by Sidhu s lawyers.
