GWINN, MI – Elizabeth M. “Liz” Zenti, 77, of Gwinn, passed away Wednesday morning, February 17, 2021 at Trillium Houseafter a short illness in the presence of her loving family and under the care of Lake Superior Life Care and Hospice.
Liz was born on April 17, 1943 in Escanaba, Michigan, the daughter of the late Walter and Marion (Miller) Olson. She was a 1961 graduate of Escanaba Holy Name High School and graduated from Northern Michigan University in 1965 with a degree in Elementary Education. Later in her career, she received a Master’s Degree in Education from NMU.
On October 14, 1967, Liz married Peter J. Zenti at All Saints Catholic Church in Gladstone. Liz first met Peter on the “Cliffs Ridge” ski hill in Marquette while they were both teaching in the Gwinn School system. They settled in Gwinn where they built a beautiful home, raised their two daughters, and enjoyed nearly 40 years of marriage together. While the girls were growing up, the
Intermediate School Districts (ISDs) have many functions. Two very important functions are communicating and coordinating.
Our local districts depend on the ISD to inform them of new opportunities and services that the state is rolling out. The state of Michigan often uses ISDs as a mechanism for communicating with the local districts because ISDs have earned the reputation of being able to get this done.
Here at the Copper Country ISD, we host all of the local superintendents for a monthly meeting. The agenda is filled with updates from many sources throughout the state and locally. The CCISD has a General Education Director who will update the superintendents on recent Michigan Department of Education memos, any new federal regulations, information on new trainings that are available and new state regulations that affect the majority of students and teachers. Finlandia University
HANCOCK Finlandia University, in partnership with the Upper Great Lakes Family Health Center, has opened its new on-campus student health clinic. The health clinic, located in Nikander 14A, will be staffed by FinnU nursing faculty member and nurse practitioner, Cindy Blake.
“I am looking forward to offering health services to our campus community,” said Blake. “Behavioral health services as well as sports medicine services will also be available. We want to meet the needs of the students in our campus community.”
Services provided include treatment for basic healthcare needs such as various infections, cold and flu symptoms, minor burns and rashes, minor musculoskeletal injuries and STD testing or exams related to birth control. Rapid tests for the flu, urinary tract infections and mononucleosis are available. Finlandia nursing students will be working alongside Blake and gaining valuable hands-on experience.
