Piqua Arts Council to host poetry competition

PIQUA For the second time, Piqua Arts Council will be hosting the West Central Regional Final for the National Endowment for the Arts’ Poetry Out Loud Competition.
The National Endowment for the Arts works with state partners such as the Ohio Arts Council, who in turn work with regional partners to host the competition where the winner takes home a $20,000 cash prize. Piqua Arts Council is responsible for a 12-county region. Botkins High School, Jackson Center High School, Piqua High School, Sidney High School, Springfield Clark CTC, Kettering Fairmont High School, Chaminade Julieanne High School and Xenia High School are registered for this year’s competition.
Premier Health moves to one emergency physician provider
DAYTON All seven Premier Health emergency centers are now using one provider group, Miami Valley Emergency Specialists.
MVES already provided emergency physicians for five of these emergency centers, and now additionally Upper Valley Medical Center and Atrium Medical Center will be staffed by MVES.
“Strategically, it was just the right time and made a lot of sense to consolidate our emergency medicine services under one group,” said Candy Skidmore, Premier Health’s vice president for the emergency and trauma service line. “Miami Valley Emergency Specialists has been an invaluable partner for many years, staffing the area’s most experienced Level 1 trauma center at Miami Valley Hospital.”

COVID-19 vaccinations will be administered to the general public tarting Tuesday, Jan. 19 at Premier Health Locations in Ohio. Doses have been earmarked for residents age 80 and up in phase 1B of Ohioâs vaccine roll out plan.
To schedule a vaccination appointment, Ohio residents age 80 or older can call (937) 276-4141 between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Mother, daughter remain hospitalized after crash
SIDNEY The mother and daughter injured in Tuesday’s crash on state Route 48 remain hospitalized.
According to Shelby County Sheriff Jim Frye, Angela I. Foster, 37, and Alexandria Foster, 10, both of Covington, are expected to make a full recovery, said a family member.
Foster’s 15-year old daughter, Hayley Worden, also of Covington, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. As a result of injuries received in the crash, Sean T. Brown, 27, of Sidney, passed away Wednesday night, Jan. 6, at Miami Valley Hospital, Dayton.
The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office responded to the report of an injury crash on state Route 48, near Fessler Buxton Road, around 7:36 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 5. The investigation indicated a Toyota Tundra, driven by Brown, was traveling northbound on state Route 48. The vehicle went left of center and into the path of a southbound 2018 International 4300 Utility truck, driven by Chris A. Tebbe, 51, of Russia
