Hate speech, bigotry, and division. These are the three words Florida’s Agriculture Commissioner used to describe Rush Limbaugh in her repudiation of Governor DeSantis’s order to lower flags at half-staff in honor of him. In her statement she said this:
Lowering to half-staff the flag of the United States of America is a sacred honor that pays respect to fallen heroes and patriots. It is not a partisan political tool. Therefore, I will notify all state offices under my direction to disregard the Governor s forthcoming order to lower flags for Mr. Limbaugh – because we will not celebrate hate speech, bigotry, and division. Lowering the flag should always reflect unity, not division, and raising our standards, not lowering them. The Election wasn’t stolen. We need to put this to rest. But hear me out. This is important. Here’s the legal definition of stolen: take (another person s property) without permission or legal right and without intending to return it. Within the context of the 2020 Presidential election, it wasn’t stolen. And the is key within the definition. Without permission or legal right. Remember, states are empowered to run their own elections under the Constitution. This is certainly something we, as South Floridians, can relate to given our regular challenges to get it right in Broward and Palm Beach County prior to the 2020 cycle.
