The Market Oriented Agricultural Programme in North Western Ghana (MOAP NW), a German Development Organisation (GIZ) agricultural sector intervention, has opened the second edition of the Agribusiness Fair and Conference in Wa, Upper West Regional capital.
This was in partnership with the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA) and the Upper West Regional Coordinating Council (RCC).
The two-day event, on the theme: “Boosting the Agribusiness Potential of North Western Ghana”, brought together stakeholders to discuss issues militating against the agriculture sector as well as effective ways of surmounting those challenges.
The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, has urged the Speaker of Parliament, Mr Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, not to be partisan.
He explained that although Mr Bagbin was an NDC member, his new position placed him above NDC issues.
“I believe that even though your position places you above partisanship, NDC is in your DNA and we cannot disengage you from the party that has nurtured you from being an MP to the position of speaker,” he stated.

The Catholic Bishop of Wa, the Most Reverend Richard K. Baawobr, has urged Parliament to enact laws against Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer and Intersex (LGBTQI) life in the country.
He said Ghanaian customs and the church recognised marriage to be between a man and a woman and not between a man and a man or a woman and a woman, adding that “for the church, this is morally wrong, as it goes against the purpose of marriage”.
The Most Rev. Baawobr also reminded Parliament of the call by the Ghana Catholic Bishops Conference not to concede to any external pressure to legalise LGBTQ in the country.
Vice Admiral Seth Amoama, the Chief of Defense Staff (CDS), has noted that the Northern, Upper East and Upper West Regions are very critical in the security architecture owing to the threat of terrorists from neighbouring countries.
He said even though Ghana had so far not suffered any terrorists attack it did not mean the country was immune to acts of terrorism, hence the need for the military to be fully prepared against their activities.
Vice Admiral Seth Amoama said this when he led a team of high ranking military men to pay a courtesy call on the Upper West Regional Minister, Dr Hafiz Bin Salih in Wa.
