Bright named Co-Chair of NCTA Grants Committee No Comments Kim Bright, director of testing services at UA Little Rock, has been selected as a co-chair of the Grants Committee for the National College Testing Association. The Grants Committee offers opportunities for professional development, to promote the development of resources for NCTA members, to encourage professional support activities, and to support members of NCTA. The work of the committee includes the development of promotional materials, the review of grant applications, assisting applicants with improvements as needed, and providing information to the membership at the annual conference. “I’m delighted to help lead the Grants Committee at NCTA,” Bright said. “While I’ve served on several committees, this is the first one I’ve co-chaired. Kwantae Jamar Hovington, hard working Cape grad

February 3, 2021 Kwantae Jamar Hovington was taken from this earth tragically Saturday, Jan. 23, 2021, at his home in Seaford. Kwantae, or “Tator” as he was known to his family, was a loving father, companion, son, brother, uncle, cousin and friend. He loved his family fiercely, especially his newborn baby girl, Khari Jhene’ Hovington. Kwantae was a hard worker and loved being outdoors. He had worked for Sposato Lawn Care, Grotto Pizza at the Tanger Outlets in Rehoboth Beach, Mountaire Farms in Milford, Allens Hatchery Inc. in Millsboro and had recently begun his own business venture, Miscellaneous Men Lawn Care. Succeeding in college isn’t a given, and it’s even more difficult for first-generation students, those who are the first in their families to earn a bachelor’s degree. Southern Illinois University Carbondale and its First Saluki Center are determined provide all of the tools and support first-generation students need to thrive and those efforts have earned national recognition. “Two of every five SIU students identify as first generation, and we’re proud to serve them,” said Lanel Love, assistant dean of students and director of the First Saluki Center. “Our goal is to inform students about critical information regarding their college education to help set them up for success.”

Cooper has served as the college guidance counselor at Subiaco (Ark.) Academy since 2014. She will be a part of the University’s Office of Advancement and Alumni Engagement and her office will be located in the Seay Student Center. She replaces Ruth Walton, who retired in December. Johnson, the director of the Idaho National Guard Joint Force Headquarters Mark Heilman, staff emeritus, was presented with the Idaho Distinguished Service Medal on Dec. 18 at Gowen Field by the commanding general of the Idaho National Guard. The prestigious award is given to service members who demonstrate exceptional meritorious service in their careers. Mark Heilman Heilman served in the army, then began a 40-year long career working in veterans outreach with an emphasis in behavioral health and social work services for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and with the National Guard. He spent the past 11 years with Boise State’s Center for Multicultural Educational Opportunities (CMEO), recently retiring in December 2020.
