That s not to take anything away from the track itself or Porsche s achievement, but it does look as though the Germans are avoiding the more highly disputed tracks in the USA. Either that or, hopefully, this is just a warm-up for something like the Willow Springs or, even better, the Laguna Seca.
The Porsche Taycan Turbo S has been disputing the title of the quickest electric sedan with the Tesla Model S ever since it came out and, one year later, it looks like we finally have a definitive answer. But being quick in a straight line is one thing; being able to pull a quick lap time out on a circuit, completely another.

Dec 14, 2020 at 1:23pm ET ++ The Porsche Taycan Turbo S set the best lap time for production electric cars.
Porsche Taycan, in its top of the line Turbo S version, has set a new lap time record of
1:33.88 minutes for production EVs at the Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta’s 2.54-mile race track north of Braselton, Georgia, U.S.
The German manufacturer has released two videos from this impressive lap, actually recorded on November 3. The car was driven by Leh Keen, a professional race car driver. Located just a short distance from the headquarters of Porsche Cars North America, Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta’s technical S’s, long straights and elevation changes demand excellent feedback, stability and power from any car.
Porsche Taycan Sets Road Atlanta Lap Record For EVs ++ Proof that it’s silent but deadly.
Make no mistake, Porsche is the king of going fast at the race track. Standing as the undisputed winningest manufacturer at LeMans – with 16 victories – these guys certainly know what they are doing. Therefore, it didn’t take us by surprise when the German automaker announced it had set the production EV lap record at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta.
Standing at 2.5-miles in length, Road Atlanta is a high-speed circuit with 12 corners and a long straight. It might not look like much on paper, but it requires expert precision to produce a quick lap. As such, Porsche put professional racing driver and firesuit fashion icon Leh Keen behind the wheel, and let him loose – we’d be remiss not to mention that Keen was sporting a fresh tartan OMP race suit on the day.
