Tasmanian Labor Housing Minister Michael Ferguson has revealed the completely unacceptable number of children languishing on the public housing waitlist. Shadow Housing Minister Anita Dow said there were 1,947 single parents and families with children on the waitlist and 241 16-18-year-olds. “The numbers revealed by Minister Ferguson today are absolutely devastating,” Ms Dow said. “We now know almost half the people on the waitlist have children, these are families that will be forced to wait more than 55 weeks to get a roof over their head.” Ms Dow said the Liberals refused to acknowledge the realities of the waitlist and the devastating impact it is having on Tasmanian families.
