Sylvia Roper Custer NEWPORT NEWS Sylvia Roper Custer passed away Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2020, in the comfort of her home surrounded by her beloved family after a surprising and short battle with cancer. Sylvia was the foundation of fellowship for her family and loved bringing people together to celebrate holidays and special events. A lifelong resident of Newport News and graduate of Warwick High School, Longwood College and Virginia Tech MBA program, Sylvia was a school teacher at Hampton High School and Ferguson High School for over 30 years. After retiring from the public school system, Sylvia went on to develop college level curriculum programs at Thomas Nelson Community College.

A Belfast photographer who interviewed the late Paolo Rossi has recalled how the Italian forward told him he had been "touched by a magic wand" when he scored a hat-trick against Brazil in 1982 World Cup.

The 64-year-old, who played for AC Milan, Juventus and more, passed away yesterday. Italian media reported he had been ill for some time. Rossi became a household name after leading the Azzurri to victory at the 1982 World Cup, finishing as the top scorer on six goals and being named the tournament s best player. He scored 20 goals in 48 appearances for Italy and more than 100 Serie A goals during spells with Vicenza, Perugia, Juventus, Milan and Verona. The forward was awarded the Ballon d Or following his World Cup performances. Belfast photographer Michael Donald (54) said Rossi was an incredibly humble man who was thankful to former Italy manager Enzo Bearzot.

New Hampton Tribune Home / Obituaries / Michael John Booth, 58 Michael John Booth, 58 Wed, 12/09/2020 - 7:29pm Bob Fenske Michael John Booth, age 58 of Hampton, passed away Sunday, Nov. 22, 2020, at his home, surrounded by family, after a year-long battle with Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease (CJD). Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a private family memorial service was held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 30, 2020, and the service was aired on Zoom. Michael was born July 28, 1962 in Fairfield, to Frank and Patsy (Hummel) Booth.  He was a 1981 graduate of Fairfield High School, and completed the two-year Winter Farm Operations course at Iowa State University.   He met Kimberly Richardson August 23, 1981 (her birthday), and they later married on Dec. 30, 1983, in Fairfield.  Following marriage, the couple farmed with his family until 2002, then moved their family and farming operation to New Hampton.
