A NEW national news primetime program is airing promotional ads that feature its host saying, I want to focus less on politicians and pundits and hear from real Canadians, the people at the heart of the story.
I’m not going to name the network and I won’t shame the journalist, but I think we need to be wary of this public-relations ploy. Joe and Gina, the butcher and real-estate broker who live next door, may be real Canadians, but they are unlikely to really understand what exactly is going on. They might know how raising transit fees will affect them on a daily basis, but they likely have no clue about the decisions that have to be made to build a civic budget or how to maintain a transit fleet.
