Fried chicken, ice cream and wine: Here Today popup aims to satisfy a trilogy of cravings

The Here Today popup is in the former Thalia location. Here Today, a weekend popup in the Lower Garden District had its soft opening March 5. The endeavor is run by Michael Stoltzfus of Coquette, and includes popular ice cream popup Lucy Boone Ice Cream, and newcomer Patron Saint Wine. Stoltzfus is spearheading the project that will be serving a menu that includes a fried chicken sandwich ($6), pickled vegetables ($8) and other rotating items. Chef Ana Castro, who heads the kitchen at Here Today, will be cultivating a menu that is sure to interest meat and veggie lovers, alike.  Stoltzfus had the idea for the pop-up when he saw the space at the former Thalia location, 1245 Constance St., sitting empty.

Leacock Township man charged in death of 4-year-old daughter run over by tractor

A Leacock Township man has been charged with two felonies after he ran over one of his daughters in a front-end loader in October 2020, according to Pennsylvania State Police. Michael Stoltzfus, 26, of Gordonville, told police that he was moving stones from his father s property to his property on Irishtown Road for a shed he was building, and because the cab of the front-end loader was big, both his daughters were with him. His 2-year-old daughter was in his lap, and his 4-year-old daughter, was standing to his left, beside the cab s door. Stoltzfus told Rhoda to stay away from the cab door s handle, and she either lost her balance or accidentally hit the handle before falling from the cab, according to the affidavit.

Columbine II Restoration - February 2021 Update

(photo by Michael Sheeler via Dynamic Aviation) Following the profound shock and sadness we all felt in learning of Karl Stoltzfus untimely passing last November, there was an understandable concern over what his death might mean to the continuation of various historical aviation projects he had initiated. Such questions are never easy to articulate without seeming self-serving or callous, but Stoltzfus had been such a driving force in the restoration of Columbine II, President Eisenhower’s Lockheed VC-121 Constellation, that it was only natural for changes to occur. However, following staff-reductions on the project a couple of weeks ago at Dynamic Aviation, wild speculations began to spread on social media, which is never a healthy scenario, so we felt the need to help tamp down such nonsense.

Chef Michael Stoltzfus revamps dining at Columns on St Charles Avenue

When Jayson Seidman bought the venerable Columns Hotel on St. Charles Avenue in December 2019, his vision wasn’t to create something new. It was to leave much that was familiar but restore some of the spot’s luster to its original sheen. Chef Michael Stoltzfus is approaching the Columns culinary program in much the same way. “I see the menu and service as paying homage to old-school New Orleans,” says the chef, who also owns the restaurants Coquette and Thalia. Built as an Italianate-style mansion for a wealthy tobacco merchant in 1883-1884, the Columns’ last owners, Jacques and Claire Creppel, turned it into a New Orleans institution during their 40-year stewardship. Historically, the Columns was a restaurant before it was a hotel, and that’s what opened first under new ownership. The property has been reconfigured from 20 rooms to 18, which are expected to open sometime this month.
