Being a teacher is not an easy job. Despite the challenges of the past year, our teachers have truly given everything they have. From making home visits to connect with students struggling with remote learning, renting external venues to deliver quality virtual classes, to rallying support from the community to support a child’s education.
Our teachers have shown incredible resilience and compassion to their students. Without the traditional classrooms, we’ve seen teachers stepping up to prove that learning can happen anywhere, as they explore new creative ways to teach and interact with their students from afar.

Last spring, Wichita families clamoring for online learning options quickly snapped up 500 spots at Education Imagine Academy, a K-12 virtual school that allows students to work at their own pace.
Next school year, many of those students will return to traditional, in-person schools. Others plan to remain at the virtual academy.
And the online school is changing its approach based on lessons learned from the pandemic. There’s been negative feedback, and we know that virtual school is not for every family, said Amanda Young, program manager of Education Imagine Academy. Every student is different, and every student needs a different type of environment to learn in.

Last year, Microsoft welcomed 4,366 Microsoft Innovative Educator Experts (MIEE) onboard its Microsoft Innovative Educator (MIE) program from the Asia region – a twofold increase from the previous year and the largest representation from the region to date. In Sri Lanka, 113 experts joined the ranks of MIE experts in the region.
The MIE program, which began in 2014, recognizes global educators who are using technology to pave the way for their peers for better learning and student outcomes. The program comprises more than one million educators worldwide who have joined the Microsoft Educator Center and successfully completed professional development online courses, accessed resources, and shared learnings with their colleagues.
