Inmate death at Maine Correctional Center to be investigated

WINDHAM, Maine (AP) A 69-year-old inmate died at Maine Correctional Center on Sunday, the state Department of Corrections said.
The department said Arthur Gardiner of Swanville died around 11 a.m. Gardiner had been serving a sentence for charges associated with aggravated trafficking of drugs since 2018, WGME-TV reported.
Maine State Police and the state medical examiner’s office were notified of Gardiner’s death. Those steps are consistent with state protocols.
Officials said Gardiner’s death was not related to coronavirus. They did not release a cause of death. Gardiner was set to be released in two years.
