The Maine Office of Tourism is rolling out a marketing campaign designed to keep the state’s great outdoors great, even as people flock to them in record-setting numbers.
Look Out for ME is a communications and education initiative encouraging “responsible recreation” and respect for the state’s natural resources, according to a news release Thursday.
With input from the outdoor recreation industry, the Maine Bureau of Parks & Lands and the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife, the MOT is offering businesses a downloadable toolkit with logos, social media posts and printable posters to help spread the message. Digital and print advertising will launch in April.

An adolescent boy was rescued Monday afternoon from the Outlet Stream in Vassalboro after falling through the ice and getting stuck in the mud below.
Lanny Dellinger, 12, of Winslow was rescued and taken to a MaineGeneral Thayer Center for Health with hypothermia due to being stuck in the water. Gabriel Shorey, 13, of Vassalboro also fell through the ice but managed to get out of the water.
A Man Had to be Rescued After Falling Through Ice Trying to Save a Deer
Alright, I must stress that I’m not a monster. And the thought of a deer falling through ice is extremely unfortunate, but I can’t honestly say I would walk out on ice I knew was dangerously thin to rescue the animal.
I’m not quite sure what that says about me, but judging how it went with this Maine man when he attempted to play hero, I think I’ll stick to my guns on this one.
News Center Maine reports 63-year-old Rick Crowe from Princeton had to be rescued by Maine Game Wardens and Princeton Police after he fell into the frigid cold waters of Long Lake on Monday morning. According to Maine Department of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife spokesperson Mark Latti, Crowe was taking a canoe out to rescue the deer in distress, when the canoe flipped. Evidently, Crowe’s wife was standing by and called game wardens for help.
