MONTVILLE Governor Janet Mills announced Thursday a $500,000 grant program to spur innovation, support clean energy start-ups, and create jobs in Maine’s fast-growing clean energy sector while celebrating Earth Day at ReVision Energy, a leading solar energy company, in Montville.
The “Maine Clean Energy Innovation Challenge” is a joint initiative of the Governor’s Energy Office and the Maine Technology Institute to spark innovation, develop new companies, and create jobs in the state’s burgeoning clean energy economy.

Maine’s growing bioscience industry will get some additional support with the formation of a new “bioscience cluster” initiative.
Launched yesterday by the Maine Center for Entrepreneurs in Portland, the initiative will aim to support bioscience innovators, entrepreneurs and startup companies involved in human and animal biology, pharmaceutical, marine and agricultural science, and healthcare innovations, according to a news release.
The cluster is made up of business incubators, accelerators and research partners committed to advancing the commercialization and scale-up of bioscience and health related businesses in Maine.
The Maine Bioscience Cluster is designed as a continuum of care, from the initial idea to the startup phase, including funding and talent development.

Augusta Maine’s Forest Opportunity Roadmap, or FOR/Maine, announced today the upcoming release of its Workforce Development Strategy for the Forest Products Industry. The strategy will be released as part of a virtual summit Friday, April 9, “Forwarding the Future of Maine’s Forest Bioeconomy.” The summit is free to attend.
“This Workforce Development Strategy is a significant component of the plan to drive growth in the Forest Products Industry to reach $12 million in economic output by the year 2025,” said Steve Schley, chair of the FOR/Maine steering committee. “A well-equipped workforce is the only way we can achieve our goals for growing this sector. The summit on Friday will feature a lot of useful information to help the industry attain this goal, and the workforce development strategy is a highly anticipated part of the overall roadmap.”
