Amazon will give $1.75 million to new Syracuse STEAM high school

A look inside the former Syracuse Central Technical High School in downtown Syracuse. The school opened in 1903 and served the city for 72 years until it was closed in 1975, replaced by Fowler High School. A county-wide STEAM high school is now planned for the building. Syracuse, N.Y. Amazon announced today that it is donating $1.75 million to fund robotics and computer science programs at the new STEAM high school planned for downtown Syracuse.
The $74 million regional high school is expected to open in fall 2022 in the former Central Tech High School building in downtown Syracuse. It is a joint project between the Syracuse school district, city of Syracuse and Onondaga County. It will be the first regional high school in Central New York.
