Taipei, May 31 (CNA) New COVID-19 testing sites will soon be set up in five Taiwanese airports to prevent potential passengers from carrying the disease to the country s offshore islands, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) said Monday.
According to the CECC, the testing sites will include Taipei Songshan Airport, Taichung International Airport, Chiayi Airport, Tainan Airport and Kaohsiung International Airport.
The Taiwan People’s Party (TPP) caucus yesterday accused health officials of lacking a proper vaccine rollout plan, saying that Minister of Health and Welfare Chen Shih-chung (陳時中) should issue a formal apology.
The TPP called for upgrading a special legislative task force, set up to review government data on the purchase of COVID-19 vaccines, to the status of a committee, and demanded transparency from the government on its plans for implementing phase 3 clinical trials for locally produced vaccines.
“The public is only concerned about vaccines, but Chen just keeps making contradictory and inaccurate announcements about them,” TPP caucus convener Chiu Chen-yuan
The Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) yesterday said that six applications had been received from groups hoping to purchase and import COVID-19 vaccines.
The center previously announced that Taiwan signed contracts to purchase about 20 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines: 10 million doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine, 4.76 million doses from the global vaccine-sharing platform COVAX and 5.05 million doses of the Moderna vaccine.
Late on Sunday evening, the center said that on Friday last week, it signed contracts with local vaccine makers Medigen Vaccine Biologics and United Biomedical for the advance purchase of 5 million doses from each.
