New Taipei makes public infection hotspots

New Taipei, May 17 (CNA) The New Taipei City government on Monday made public several locations in the city mostly traditional markets that were visited often by people confirmed to have COVID-19, and urged anybody who went to those places who has developed symptoms to get tested.
On Monday, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) reported a total of 333 locally transmitted COVID-19 cases, 148 of which were from New Taipei, the most populous city in Taiwan, including 41 from Banqiao District.
Since Saturday, the number of locally transmitted cases in New Taipei has risen to 320, CECC data showed.

According to the Taiwan Centers for Disease Control, 155 out of 158 cases in the capital, Taipei, were linked to hostess teahouses. Monday s numbers follow a previous record 207 new cases reported Sunday.

(AP photo) TAIPEI (Taiwan News) Taiwanese electronics manufacturer Pegatron confirmed Monday (May 17) that an employee at its headquarters in Taipei s Beitou District has tested positive for COVID-19. The company said in a press release that an employee was diagnosed with COVID-19 during a regular health check-up at a local hospital. Although he is asymptomatic and has been placed in quarantine, additional tests are needed to confirm his diagnosis, it said. Pegatron pointed out that the employee in question commutes to its headquarters in Beitou from the suburbs and that he seldom visits the downtown area. It added that the office building at which the man works has been disinfected fully.

Ridership on the Taiwan Railways Administration’s (TRA) system on Sunday fell about 60 percent following a surge in locally transmitted cases of COVID-19 in Taipei and New Taipei City, the agency said yesterday.
About 200,000 people on Sunday used the TRA system, down from an average of 640,000 people on a regular weekend, Taipei Railway Station Master Tu Wei-ting (涂維庭) said.
TRA estimated a 50 percent decline in ridership during the peak morning hours yesterday, the first work day under stricter disease prevention measures.
