SALEM, Ore. â Oregon lawmakers have passed a bill to give tenants who are struggling with financial hardships due to the pandemic more time to pay past-due rent.
Currently tenants have until July, but the legislation will extend the deadline to next Feb. 28. The bill already passed the Senate and now goes to the governor.
The measure protects renters from the long-term impact of not making payments on time by barring such information from being reported to consumer credit agencies or being used in consideration of future rental applications. The measure also bars landlords from screening out applicants based on pandemic-era evictions.

Taipei, May 11 (CNA) China Airlines (CAL) said Tuesday that only about 10 percent of its cargo services will be affected by a government order to bring home all its pilots for a 14-day quarantine period, amid a COVID-19 outbreak among its flight crews.
In compliance with the Central Epidemic Command Center s (CECC) order on Monday, CAL said, its flight crews will be recalled and those who complete the required 14-day quarantine and test negative for COVID-19 will be deemed as safe and will be separated from the others.

The Taipei City Government yesterday raised the alert level for COVID-19, with tighter disease prevention measures going into effect, after six locally transmitted cases with unknown infection sources were reported in New Taipei City and Yilan County.
Taipei Mayor Ko Wen-je (柯文哲) said that large outdoor events with more than 500 people and indoor events with more 100 people would be canceled.
Event organizers have to obtain approval if they want to push through with the event, but participants must wear a mask at all times, are banned from eating and drinking, and must practice social distancing, he said.
