Picture: FILE A sophisticated telecommunications equipment worth $40,000 had been gathering dust in a corner of the Central Post Office in Suva for 11 years, a report in The Fiji Times on January 16, 1978 read. The Fiji Times learned of its existence when a correspondent wrote, asking why this equipment could not be used for installation in government ministerial cars. The correspondent said taxpayers should know how “expatriate experts” had left behind a “white elephant”. Then prime minister Ratu Sir Kamisese Mara had said in Cabinet that it was decided to equip ministerial cars with radio telephone sets as an “economy measure”.

The center will provide 516 online services of around 50 government organizations, giving instructions and advices to citizens.  Opening ceremony of the center was attended by Prime Minister L.Oyun-Erdene, Governor of the Capital City D.Sumiyabazar and authorities of information and communication technology sector.
